Izhar Gafni from Israel has solved the world fuel shortage crisis in one fell swoop… as long as it doesn’t rain. All the money spent on bike sharing schemes in so many cities around the world, it’d make sense for hotter countries to follow Izhar’s lead. So what if your bike was stolen? Just cut out another one – this one cost Izhar $9 to make!

Whilst I’m writing about bikes (again) do make sure to check out this amazing bendable bike, tie it to a post – and no one will nick it :]

Horror on a Stick

August 12, 2012

STOYN, the Russian ad agency famous for their pop culture ice lollies featuring celebrities and icons from the past, such as Che Guevara and Darth Vader are on the verge of producing a new and far more horrific second series of their ice cream art. Check out these previews – you can almost taste the 80’s!

On Wednesday as the Las Vegas desert sun rose, shocked commuters witnessed the full effect of the Occupy movement with the aid of a mystery street artist, a pair of mannequins, some rope, and a death defying climb up two overhead billboards on the freeway in Clark County. Here’s a perturbing take on the situation via Occupy Las Vegas who first reported the story.

Clark County has the second highest rate of adult suicide in the country right now. It has the fifth highest rate of child suicide. And, thanks to the governor’s draconian education budget, the Social Work programs that used to supply volunteers and interns to help such people have been de-funded. The Clark County suicide hotline number is “not in service at this time.” Nevada has the highest sustained unemployment of any state in the U.S. with almost no real hope in sight and politicians more concerned with corporate campaign donations than they are helping the middle class & poor.

Bring Your Own Cushions

August 7, 2012

Check out this homage to Le Corbusier’s LC 2 by architect Stefan Zwicky, with one rather striking exception. It’s made from concrete. Ouch…

Artist and self taught carpenter Michael Rea records and fictionalises the world around him by recreating just about anything you can think of as life size wooden sculptures. Guns, futuristic tanks, robots, time machines, massive sound systems and giant astronaut suits… yes you get the picture, all the toys that boys could possibly want. It’s probably like a scene from an unpainted sci-fi movie set in Rea’s studio. See and learn more about his work at www.mikerea.com.

Art You Can Ride

July 29, 2012

Check out these wooden bicycles by Bill Holloway and Mauro Hernandez. Each is hand crafted to perfection in their San Jose workshop. Where humanly possible all wood used by these two master craftsmen is sustainable, recovered or recycled from local suppliers.

I’d definitely trade in my 70’s Raleigh Chopper for one of these beauts given half the chance. Love the styling, shape, and well, you know they’ll never rust.
